hello, world!

every new software programmer starts with learning how to create a program that says, "hello, world!". so i thought that that was appropriate. maybe you don't. but, this is my blog and i get to make the decisions. so there! ;) and for the record, no, i am not a software programmer. i am a mechanical engineer. but, i do know some programming. very little. very, very, VERY little.
